Architectural Concrete at Altitude

Set high on Queenstown’s renowned Crown Terrace, Terrace View is a residential project that celebrates architectural precision and natural materials. Designed to sit quietly within its alpine surrounds, the home pairs exposed concrete with warm timbers and floor-to-ceiling glazing to capture the full drama of the Wakatipu Basin.

Working alongside the team at CDL Building, Allied Concrete supplied nearly 225m³ of concrete for this bespoke build, much of the interior finish centres around concrete, both structurally and aesthetically.

Polished Concrete Floors & SCC Walls

The home features polished concrete floors throughout the living areas and bedrooms, creating a refined, low-maintenance surface that complements the project’s minimalist interior palette. These floors were delivered using a 25–30 MPa mix, combined with PeterFell colouring and ConQ B52 admixtures to ensure a smooth, consistent tone and polished finish.

For the striking internal walls, including the statement shower and corridor forms; a Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) mix was used. This choice enabled seamless pours with a superior surface finish, free from vibration, making it ideal for architectural concrete detailing.

Why SCC?

The use of SCC internally made it possible to achieve consistently smooth, clean surfaces that highlight the design intent, while reducing the need for surface treatment or rework. Its flowability and self-levelling nature made it the perfect fit for this level of architectural finish.

A Collaborative Effort

Allied Concrete worked closely with CDL Building and other contractors to ensure material consistency across the entire home, from the internal slab to the vertical elements. Thanks to precise planning, consistent batching and regular coordination, the result is a home that reflects the true potential of concrete in modern residential design.
