Built for the Land – Durable Concrete for New Zealand Farms
Farm environments are some of the harshest anywhere, demanding concrete that can withstand heavy machinery, livestock impact, chemical exposure, abrasion, and constant washdown. Farmcrete is purpose-designed for New Zealand farms, delivering long-term durability, resistance to acidic attack from effluent and silage, and reliable performance in demanding rural conditions.
Why Choose Farmcrete?
Farmcrete is engineered specifically for the realities of rural New Zealand, standing up to extreme wear, harsh chemicals, livestock traffic, and constant exposure to water and waste.
Increased Strength & Durability
While some farm slabs may only require 20 MPa structurally, real-world farm conditions demand a denser, more durable mix. Farmcrete is recommended at 30 MPa to provide improved resistance to abrasion, effluent exposure, silage acids, and chemical cleaners, delivering a longer service life under machinery and livestock traffic.
Chemical & Abrasion Resistance
Designed to endure harsh cleaning agents, silage acids, and constant washing, Farmcrete’s dense mix structure ensures longevity in environments such as milking sheds, feed pads, silage pits, and effluent storage areas.
Fibre Reinforced for Faster Construction
Farmcrete is supplied with synthetic fibre reinforcement pre-mixed into every load, eliminating the need for steel mesh. This reduces setup time, site congestion, and labour requirements while improving slab performance.
Optimised Mix for Performance
Minimum 30 MPa strength for durability
20mm aggregate for structural integrity
Low permeability to resist acid attack
Best Practices for Placing & Finishing
Attention to placement, finishing, and curing is critical to achieving the full performance benefits of Farmcrete in demanding farm environments.
Vibration: Ensures a dense, long-lasting slab resistant to chemical ingress.
Finishing: Will benefit from the use of anti-vap in certain conditions to ensure a durable surface.
Broom Finish: Provides skid resistance without compromising durability.
Control Joints: Should be cut as soon as possible to prevent uncontrolled cracking.
Curing: Like most concretes, wet curing for 7 days is best for optimum performance.
Safe & Effective Cleaning
To maintain Farmcrete’s longevity:
Avoid pH levels below 7 in cleaning agents.
Pre-wet surfaces before applying chemicals.
Rinse thoroughly to remove residue and prevent surface erosion.
Lower Carbon, Same High Performance
Farmcrete is produced using Ecrete low-carbon concrete within its mix design, helping reduce embodied CO₂ while delivering the durable, long-lasting performance farms rely on. Through smarter mix design, lower clinker content, and the use of supplementary cementitious materials, Farmcrete supports more sustainable rural construction without changing how the concrete is placed or finished.
