Remarkables Sugar Bowl Chairlift

Client: Dopplemayr and NZ Ski

Location: Queenstown, New Zealand

Project: Remarkables Sugar Bowl Chairlift

When it comes to Queenstown’s tourism industry, the area’s skifields play a pivotal role. Allied Concrete’s Queenstown team was involved in a key infrastructure upgrade project at the well-known skifield, working on equipment integral in getting skiers up the mountain. Allied Concrete drew on its considerable expertise to install a Doppelmayr D-Line high-speed chairlift. The six-seater lift boasts a vertical rise of a whopping 258 metres and – with the ride from the bottom to the top taking a mere four minutes – has the capacity to carry up to 2,400 passengers every hour in the height of the ski season. The field’s old Sugar chairlift will be removed, and revegetation work will be done to rehabilitate and restore the surrounding landscape. Work undertaken by Allied Concrete at The Remarkables has enabled 2.5km of new trails and 28 new snow-making guns and lances.
