Allied Concrete continue to maintain and foster a solid working relationship with CPB Contractors, the main contractor for the development of the Christchurch Convention Centre, or the newly named Te Pae (Maori for Gathering Place).

Te Pae will have 28,000m2 of flexible spaces and a 3,300m2 exhibition hall, positioning Canterbury as an international conference and event destination as well serving Christchurch and its wider communities.

The initial foundation pour took place in November 2017, with 11,500m3 of concrete supplied to date out of the 19,000m3 total required to complete the project.

Te Pae spans two blocks from Cathedral to Victoria Squares, with approximately 7,500m3 of concrete needed for the raft slab foundation pours alone. The largest pour to date of 1,000m3 was delivered to site in just 6 hours, a testament to our operational capabilities and great people. One of 11 raft slab pours in total, among numerous concrete deliveries to site.

Allied Concrete and Ashby’s Ready Mixed formed a joint venture to manage supply during large pours and have provided great service and flexibility on delivery times whilst supplying a consistent and quality product. Additional pours will create logistical challenges as access becomes limited as construction progresses.

Our Canterbury Technical Team offered alternative shear wall mix designs which have successfully been used and provided our customer with a product that has proved beneficial for more than just performance. This successful mix design has since been requested and used on several other projects in Christchurch. Mix designs have varied from 30MPa to 40MPa low heat mix designs tailored to specifications required for the raft slab design.

Staff from Allied Concrete and Ashby’s Ready Mixed will continue to exceed expectations further on this project, enjoying the role in providing support and proudly supplying concrete to another key development in restoring Christchurch’s infrastructure.
