Newmarket Viaduct Replacement Project
At the heart of Auckland, the construction of Newmarket Viaduct southbound opened to traffic in September 2010. The first stage of the Newmarket Viaduct replacement on Auckland’s busiest motorway was completed six months ahead of schedule.
The entire bridge consists of 498 segments. The two segments were cast a day. All beams have been cast from special 60Mpa concrete mix. With every truck, a slump test is done by the technician before it leaves the plant and another slump test is done on site before pumping the concrete.
An Allied Concrete technician (Haua Adams) was always on site to ensure the quality of concrete is consistent. The entire bridge consisted of 24 columns (2 x 12), and has been cast from special 40Mpa concrete mix, and 32000 cubic metres of concrete was supplied for this project. As well as supplying all the concrete the Allied Concrete Penrose Laboratory was hired to do independent testing on this entire project by NGA.
