It’s a Stitch Up
The final stage of the Newmarket Viaduct has been completed by the Northern Gateway Alliance and Allied. The Viaduct is an integral part of Auckland’s busiest motorway.
Three of the four lanes had been closed overnight to allow the Stitch together of the southbound and northbound viaduct across Newmarket. Allied Concrete supplied thirty two truck loads of special 60Mpa high early age concrete for the “stitch" which was 1.1m wide and 690m long.
Many trials were done to determine the properties of fresh and harden concrete with major focus on slump life and early age strength development. There was no external temperature curing applied on site. With every truck load a slump test was done by a technician before it left the batching plant, and another slump test was done on site before pouring the concrete to ensure the quality of concrete and consistency. Remote temperature matched curing (RTMC) system was used to evaluate the early strength development which allowed NGA to open Auckland busiest motorway three hours ahead of schedule.
NGA Senior Project Engineer Jackson Lingwood thanked Allied concrete staff for their support and co-operation to make this possible.
